Gran Bahia Principe Coba is just over an hour south of Cancun - an All Inclusive Mayan Riveria Resort

How do you rate your stay at Gran Bahia Principe Coba?

This is the first placed we have been to on the Mayan so nothing to compare to.

What were your favorite things about this all inclusive Mayan Riviera resort?

Very clean and well maintained. The buffet and restaurants were excellent, especially the Japanese restaurant. You get use of the other 2 resorts in the complex (Tulum and Akumal) as well.

The Coba main pool was great and had activities all day and had a separate swim up bar pool on the other side of it. The staff were very friendly and we loved our waiter Carlos at the buffet. There were also nightly shows for entertainment.

What were your least favorite things about the Gran Bahia Principe Coba resort?

Not much other than it is a very large resort and not on the beach but it is a short walk (7 min) or tram ride to the beach and they run very frequently. There is a ton of humidity so you get that musty smell in your room and things don't dry that quick. You do get used to that.

What are your best tips for future travelers to the hotel and/or destination?

Coba is the newer of the 3 resorts, the others are on the beach but older.

Always book your a la carte restaurants (you usually get three) right when you arrive in order to get the best times.

Take a travel mug (or bubba mug from Canadian Tire) as it will keep your drinks cold and you don't have to go up as often for re-fills.

If your hair frizzes in humidity like mine did..bring lots of bobby pins and elastics as you will mostly likely have it up all the time :-)
The person who cleans your room is different than the one that stock the bar...keep that in mind if you want to tip - money in the fridge or by the namecard of the one cleaning the room.

Who would you recommend this all inclusive Mayan Riviera resort too? (ex. families, couples, groups, etc.)

This resort would be great for everyone.

Editor's Notes:

Thanks for your great resort review Sandi! I love the beach shot!

Gran Bahia Principe Coba is a 3 1/2 star Riviera Maya all inclusive resort that gets a 95% recommendation rate from travel reviews. That's a great approval rating for a non-five star resort!

This all inclusive Mayan Riviera resort is very large with a tram to help get you around the reosrt to restaurants, the beach, etc. It's in a great location about 25 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, 20 minutes north of Tulum, and with-in easy driving distance to the ferry to Cozumel.

The Coba is the newest of the three Gran Bahia Principe resorts in the area but is not on the beach.
